Have a Heart

I've come to a realization,
I can make things like this or sleep.

I think I chose right.

This is a benefit show for a cool dude named John Bullard.  I'm making a series of posters for this show to help raise awareness for cerebral palsy that are based off album covers of John's favorite bands.  This is the first.  More to come.

Goddess of the Dead

Ever wonder who the dead might prey to?
Well while on a lovely outing with my most awesome of girlfriends, we asked that question AND came up with an answer.  This gal

Falcon for Falcon

So I got this photo off of Imagur via Reddit and I have to say that they made a quite faithful reproduction to one of the all time iconic spacecrafts of all time.  You'll note that the falcon is on a green screen so they wanted to give their falcon a bit more sparkle (as they should) and below is the result.

I think that's a valiant attempt but since I like my photoshop...

You can catch the documentation of their amazing creation here.

MOTUS Graphics

I've working a motion capture studio right here in Plano called Motus Digital.  Their new website MoCap Online is going to showcase some of my graphic work.
Here's the project:
Originally their link icons involved this fellow:
Meet MOTUS Man.  He's the model that Motus uses for all of their model packs they sell.  As he stands he's slick for sure but I made a suggestion that he could look a little more finished.  So I and my trusty Photoshop skills too a swing.  He now has carbon fiber textured panels, better contrast with cool low lights and I've added glowing pieces to his armor as well.

He'll be standing in front of these backgrounds in a variety of poses to demonstrate the pre-rendered motion packs they offer.

Here's an example of a finished combination

Please keep your eyes on MoCap Online and they can make your next game build a lot easier.

A VERY old friend

I haven't drawn this dude in years.  I miss markers & toned paper.  Good stuff.  I used China Marker for the whites.

Logo Design

Howdy internet users!
I was recently commissioned to make a logo for my old friend who's starting up a martial arts studio in NYC.

I've built up a good amount amount of progress images and it's time to show them off and tell a story.
We started with a sketch submitted by my client for a general idea of what was being made

After we had a few discussions I tried adding some dimensionalality by having the figure immersed in the star.

My client loved it.  So I expanded on it with markers in this prelim.

Now it was time to clean this idea up and go digital!  I started with a simple ink drawing.

Once scanned and cleaned, I brought this into illustrator and turned into a crisp vector.

It was at this point that my client and I talked about some design changes.  So I threw this out there.

Eventually though we compromised, as everybody should.  As a result we now have this.

This is the logo as it stands now.  I'm working on color changes and text next but so far, it's been a good time.

Value Study No. 2

A second value study with a better anatomical reference.  My next step is taking this to the page.  I have a surface to prepare and an older painting to destroy.  You gotta tear down in order to build...

Either way, I aim to tell to the painting's story too it's about time.  It's been too ling since I had fun with a painting.  Too long...

New Value Study

This is a value study for an acrylic piece coming up.
I forgot how satisfying working on toned paper can be. You can control everything or rather the ability is there. All that's necessary is to seize the opportunity or "Carpe Penicilio".
My eternal thanks go to Michelle for buying me this sketchbook.  I'll always use it to make the ordinary into extraordinary, the mundane into something strange and to keep something amazing on paper.

Porcupine Progress

So here are The Porcupine drawings so far.  I have two more views to do and once all the pencil work is done, I'll be coloring it in Photoshop.

Porcupine progress

Nuff said really

It's all cars today!

So I happen to like machines.  Things like planes, guns and cars intrigue me.  They're the ultimate in practical design.  What comes out of machines is work that can be objectively measured.  So here's my take on my favorite muscle car.  The Chevrolet Camaro.  Also because I'm a gigantic nerd, I want to make one inspired by the film, TRON Legacy:

We must not forget my earlier take on the Bugatti Grand Sport Vittesse.  I've named this doomsday era supercar "The Porcupine" which I'm featuring in my comic that's sadly still in progress because time management and myself aren't on speaking terms.  I'd announce my overall plan here but it's better that I show it completed and "in the round" as it were.
Please share stay tuned...

A major website update

If you click on over to my website you'll see some major additions.  I've taken way too long to add these to the world wide web.  My talents are multifaceted whether it be
IllustrationPaintingDrawing or Designing, you can see far more that I have to offer now than before.  I know you'll enjoy what you see and more is on the way if I have anything to say about it.  Rest assured.  Now it's time for my rest.  Goodnight for now, world.  We'll speak in the daylight.

A pair of...

...beautiful legs that belong to a beautiful person.
Honestly, I think my foreshortening is off but it's a good rendering exercise at least.

The comic continues!

So here's page one in progress!

Here's page 4 and I'm calling "done" on the color.

Working

This character is called "Cougar Banger" and quoting from the author,  my rendering of him is "BADASS".  He used all caps.  I'm guessing he really liked it.

This is going out to...

...on of the three Wazzocks in the UK that present a TV show.  (Once it's done of course)  Guess who?  Also I'll be sending it to a certain New Yorker as well.

The picture says...

...well, it doesn't say anything because it's a picture.  I wanted to put my face out on the interwebz and here I am!  Wait, is that a trench-coat and gloves in a Texas summer?   Yes it is!  I needed a bucket and many towels to deal with the sweat.  Not to mention the small lake I needed later to re-hydrate myself after I was done with the shoot.  Why a trench-coat and gloves, you might ask?  Simple answer is that I like them.  This is only one of the many reasons why winter is by far in a way  my favorite season.  The cold forces me (and the rest of the world) to "Improvise.  Adapt.  Overcome."  as Mr. Eastwood would say.

Working with MATAS

So my thanks goes out Matthew and the Arrogant Sea for letting me help on their upcoming Album Cover.

After much hard work, tinkering, and negotiation we're getting closer and closer to a final product that ya'll will be jamming out to soon.  In the meantime for those of you in Dallas, please come see MATAS and myself at Dallas' Prophet Bar on July 3rd.  MATAS will be rocking the house.  I'll be selling some prints inspired by the album cover.  Roofs shall be blown, faces will melt and good times will be had by all.  See you there!

Laying the groundwork

So since I've already established the look of the comic that I'm going for, I've been laying the groundwork for the rest of the comic. These early steps are by far the easiest.  More to come.  Rest assured.
